Photography

A sampling of photos of what I see from walking, teaching, and other everyday circumstance around Seattle. Over the years I’ve shot on film (Pentax K1000) but mainly digital (Canon DSLRs, iPhone). More recently I have been using an OM-System TG-7 – a cute red action camera that works great for street photography and macros. I taught photo classes for several years, which is where I learned (my first class was a Digital Photo college course in 2012 that I said yes to, though I had no real photography experience – I stayed a week ahead of the students and figured things out as I went along). At my day job I do events like conferences and retreats, and occasionally I get asked to do something like senior class portraits. This summer I did a promo shoot for our local yoga studio.

Photography is the medium that is most accessible for folks. When I taught non-traditional Photo courses (a creative elective for most), I’d get Business majors come up to me the first day, telling me they weren’t creative so don’t expect a lot from them. “We’ll see about that” I’d say. Since everyone has a creative heart, the task one has is to simply get in touch with that, and give oneself permission to explore it. As a teacher, I just nudge and remind them.
